Intro:
In this four-part series, we will be creating a blueprint for building a social media presence. A presence that is engaging to its members, easy to maintain for you the administrator....and overall fun for the community.
design your social presence

Welcome to Week 2 of "Social Media: How to Connect With and Engage Your Audience". Today we will be diving into what a good social media platform looks like.

As promised there will be a few links you can click on to see real live examples of folks who are doing it right.

Simply pick the elements of the different platforms that are most closely related to your niche and map out your blueprint by duplicating what they are doing.

Example #1: National Wildlife Federation

That National Wildlife Federation launched "Green Hour", which is a social campaign designed to inspire parents in getting their kids outdoors for at least an hour a day.

Here is their Facebook Page:

Twitter Page:

Notice the use of custom background photo on Twitter and the use of a custom tab on the Facebook Page. Extras like this make a big difference in the quality of the presentation to your audience.

Example #2: Londolozi

Londolozi Game Reserve offers once in a lifetime experiences. An ability to truly connect with rare wild animals in their natural habitat.

All stellar examples of customizing background content to match the brand and voice of your social media outreach.

Example #3: Red Bull

Check out all their tabs within their Fan Page. Very well targeted at different segments of their audience.

Their tabs include: "Athletes", "Redbull.tv", and "Games + Apps".

Think about what specific things your audience may appreciate around your message and consider creating targeted tabs on your Fan Page to engage different segments of your crowd on a deeper level.

Whatever it is that you have to say,  as long as it contributes to society on some level - there IS an audience that wants to engage with you. You just have to make it fun for them to connect with you. Online audiences want simple, fun, quick, and consistent. The quality of your presentation is just as important as the content of your presentation.

Why?

Simply put: Your online platform is your first impression with a new audience member. If you were meeting face to face, we wouldn't be too far off in guessing that you would put some care into personal presentation? The same rules apply for your Facebook Page, your website, your Twitter feed, so on and so forth.

Now that you have an easy method for mapping out your blueprint for 'how' you are going to setup your social media presence - next week's post is going to be really exciting! All setup and ready to go means you need to start sharing your voice. Producing content and putting it out there.
